Mentoring at PVAMU
(The Class of 1959)

The Class of 1959 under the leadership of Mrs. Celestine Tisdell Barnes, President, began a mentoring program with the 2005 freshman class.  This program is coordinated through the University College Panther Camp initiative under the direction of Mrs. Lettie Raab and Mr. Mark Pearson which started August, 2005.  The purpose of this partnership is to   provide an opportunity for alumni to nurture and mentor entering freshman at PVAMU and to continue this partnership throughout the course of the students college career.  The year 2009, will mark the golden anniversary celebration for members of the Class of 1959 and the graduation year for students beginning their college experience in 2005.

On May 25th 2005, three (3) representatives of the Class of 1959, Mrs. Bettie J. Agnew, Mrs. Joyce Livingston, and Mrs. Verna Guerin met with Mrs. Lettie Raab, Mr. Mark Pearson, Mrs. Yvette Barker, Mr. Shannon Neal and Dr. Hortense Kilpatrick to discuss alumni interest in providing service to PVAMU students.  Mr. Mark Pearson and Mrs. Lettie Raab presented an excellent overview of the University College and its mission.  Alumni guests were treated to a private viewing of the new video in the College theatre; a tour of the university campus, and to a special luncheon immediately following the morning orientation session.

Joined together the Class of 2005 and the Class of 1959 are off to a mutually gratifying venture.
