Pre-College Summer Programs:

BHSSC – Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp

The Prairie View A&M University Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp provides the opportunity for 50 promising 5th, 6th and 7th grade students to enhance their proficiency in mathematics and science. The two-week on-campus camp offers innovative programs to enhance students’ knowledge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics while fostering leadership and citizenship.

ExCEL/ECE – Electrical and Computer Engineering Programs

These programs are for academically-talented students who will complete the 10th, 11th or 12th grades in the spring. Considered are students who are expressly interested in an electrical or computer engineering degree. The ExCEL Program requires a 400-word essay, a “B” or higher GPA, letters of recommendation and college entrance scores, if available. The ECE Summer Institute requires a high school transcript and a letter of recommendation. Please contact us for specifics.

RAP – Research Apprentice Program

RAP is a six-week summer enrichment program for high school students entering the junior or senior year. Participants get “hands-on” educational and research experiences in the academic disciplines of food and agricultural sciences with a wealth of lectures, laboratory experiments, workshops and seminars. Candidates must be ranked in the upper one-third of their class and be interested in pursuing a college degree in food and agricultural sciences.

STEM-EC – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Enrichment Camp

STEM-EC has the goal of increasing the number of well-prepared women and minority students pursuing baccalaureate and graduate degrees in STEM disciplines. Forty-five students receive two weeks of on-campus summer study to enhance their math and science skills. Selection is competitive.

STI – Summer Transportation Institute

STI is a four-week, on-campus learning experience sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration to stimulate the curiosity of bright high school students. Training is given in math, science and technology while students explore transportation-related careers.

H.S. Estelle 4-H & Youth Camp

The H.S. Estelle 4-H & Youth Camp located in Huntsville, Texas is a five-week summer program for youth, ages eight to sixteen, who have not had the opportunity to participate in a traditional camping experience. Camp activities include wood science, archery, horseback riding, ROPES team building exercises, swimming, line dancing, educational workshops and a host of other fun things!
