60.09    Employees Registering as Students                                             Issued: September 15, 1999


1.    Eligibility

        As per System Regulation 31.99.01, employees of Prairie View A&M University are eligible
        to register as students, subject to the following limitations:

        a.    employees registering for classes outside of their normal work hours may do so without
               any approval from their employing department.

        b.   employees registering for classes during their normal work hours must obtain prior written
              approval from their department head.

        Employing departments are not obligated to approve employee requests to take classes during regular
        work hours, but they are encouraged to do so to the extent they do not interfere with the performance
        of the employee's and department's duties.

2.    Approval Process

        2.1    Each semester an employee desires to enroll in classes during regular work hours, they must
                 request written approval from their department head using the Employee Request to Enroll
                 in Classes During Working Hours form (see Attachment 1).

        2.2    If approved, the employee may proceed with registering for classes. A copy of the form must
                 be submitted to the Human Resource Department for filing in the employee's personnel file.

        2.3    If disapproved, the employee may not enroll in classes during work hours.


3.    Non-Compliance

        3.1    Failure by an employee to obtain the requisite approvals could result in the following actions
                 being taken by the University:

                 a.    Dis-enrollment from the classes held during normal work hours,
                 b.    Docking of pay for hours not worked and not made up
                 c.    Other disciplinary action as provided for in the System Regulation
                        Employee Discipline and Dismissal.
